When the sky blazes like this there seems to be an obligation to paint it. Gazing out at the Ardgour Hills and the ancient profile of Glencoe I sketched as rapidly as I know how to capture the scene. I made informational notes about relative values and harmonies and took some photos as an aide memoir. Beyond the village the water glimmered in the quietness. I upscaled these sketches into a number of paintings back in the warmth of my studio.
